A Milder Deep Sea Fishing Experience
This is an easy, no-experience-necessary, “fun” bottom fishing tour that is great for the whole family as an alternative to a offshore deep sea fishing charter trip. Bottom fishing on Kaua’i is done with the boat stopped, sometimes anchored, but usually drifting over favored locations known to support fish such as jacks, snapper, wrasse, goatfish, and more. Fish caught “Shallow water bottom fishing” are generally smaller than what you’d catch “Deep Sea Fishing on kaua’i,” usually weighing no more than 1-5 pounds, although you can get lucky and hook into much larger fish. This Kaua’i sport fishing excursion is less intense, yet still just as exhilarating and enjoyable!
While there are no guarantees in any kind of fishing (otherwise it would be called “catching“), bottom fishing offers some of your best odds at catching fish. Since we will be fishing the near shore waters rather than venturing too far offshore, Kaua’i bottom fishing charters are typically shorter than deep sea fishing. 4 hours is usually plenty of time. This, plus the fact that the inshore waters tend to be calmer, the gear lighter, and the days shorter, is why I often recommend bottom fishing charters for families with school-aged children.
“Deep water bottom fishing” is another method of bottom fishing on Kaua’i. Done while drifting in 300-500 feet of water. Fish such as amberjack, giant trevally, gray snapper and shark are most commonly caught using stand up gear. I recommend a 6 hour trip for this type of Kaua’i sport fishing charter.
